A new Vice Chair has been elected to the Weir Estate Residents Association’s Executive Committee. Life Long resident, Rohema Khanom was this week elected into the role by a unanimous vote of members at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) last week.

Rohema and her family have lived on Weir Estate for many years in which she has grown up in the area. This week Rohema joined the association to work with and support the current Chair as well bringing new ideas to the take the association forward.

The position of vice chair had been vacant for many years and this is one of the first times, WERA has had a full executive committee who are responsible for managing the association, its finances and decisions.

Current Chair, Dave McEvoy spoke highly of the new appointee to WERA team at the meeting and then recommended that members elected her which was overseen by new Housing Officer, Teodoro De Carvalho.

Rohema has already begun throwing herself into her new role by getting involved in key issues such as the Community Garden, Parking issues and other long term estate projects.

Following her election Rohema told of her delight at being elected “I am absolutely delighted to be elected as vice chair for WERA, and would like to thank everyone who elected me, especially our Chair, Dave McEvoy who nominated me and gave me the confidence to stand for election.”

Rohema who is 26 becomes the youngest member of the strong executive committee added “I hope in the next few months, with the support of WERA and its residents I can help drive change on our estate and improve standards for all our residents. Let’s raise the profile of WERA and set a standard that everyone aspires to.”

As part of her role as Vice Chair, Rohema will stand in for the Chair in his absence as well as making key decisions about the future direction and actions of Weir Estate Residents Association.

Dave McEvoy, WERA Chair said of the appointment “Rohema will most certainly be a fantastic addition to WERA, not only because she has grown up on Weir Estate but that she has a clear vision and dedication for helping us to improve our estate for residents. I am thrilled that she agreed to stand for election and delighted she was subsequently elected by members; she is a welcome and fantastic new member to the association. I am very much looking forward to working closely with her to take this association forward.”

WERA is managed by an Executive Committee of three other members currently consisting of Dave McEvoy – Chair, Mags Cregan – Secretary and Sue Cranmer – Treasurer.

Rohema goes on to encourage other residents to join WERA and attend its monthly meetings going on to say “I’d really like to see more residents coming to the meetings and getting involved, after all this is our estate, nobody elses.”
