Community Garden Fencing completed – Weir Community Garden update:
Work to install new metal fencing around the Weir Community Garden site and prepare the area its next phase of development have been completed on Monday this week (Completed on 25th July 2011) by contractor SSG Construction.
Despite being delayed due to the discovery of a number of gas leaks in the Anfield Close area of the estate adjoining the community Garden site, the site is now ready for the next phase of works to implement the garden by designers Touchwood Tree’s Ltd.
In the first phase of preparation works, the walls have been repaired by installing brick pillars and removal of two old wall mounted benches along the boundary wall.
There will now be a number of open days arranged in conjunction with touchwood trees designers where residents can discuss the plans and get involved in putting the garden in place, WERA have also asked residents to come up with a name for the space, though sadly none have been received as yet.
SSG, one of Lambeth’s main construction contractors have cleared the site and it will soon be formerly handed back to WERA to commence the next stage of the project.
Two gates have also been installed for easy access. The gates will shortly be locked and consideration is being given to improving security.
Dave McEvoy, WERA Chair said ‘We are delighted that the project is moving forward despite some delays unexpected delays. We can now move forward and develop the next phase of the project for the benefit of residents and local people’

Background to the Project
This page will give you all the latest information and plans on the exciting new Community Sensory Garden which is planned for a corner of Weir Estate. The site is situated on Anfield Close and we are aiming to transform the area into a wonderful place for residents and local people to enjoy, whether that be to relax and get involved in learning new skills as well as stimulating the senses. The space will also have an area for food growing of vegetables and herbs which we aim to be able to sell in order to sustain and maintain the garden for future generations of those living on and around Weir Estate.

Here, we will show you the plans as well as the latest developments with the project as its takes shape. We will be working with Lambeth Living to prepare the site and then it will be handed over to WERA to implement a design which will provide a place of rest and relaxation to enjoy a good book as well as offering surgeries where residents and local people can get advice and skills in gardening. We also aim to be able to welcome local schools into the space in which this will help maintain the garden while providing an educational benefit to our local community.
At the heart of the project is our community and will be for members of the community to get stuck into to transforming what is currently a tarmac wasteland serving no benefit or purpose. We want to see this space be a great space for all to enjoy no matter what your age or ability. We want to make it accessible to those with a wide range of disabilities as well as giving the chance to see your efforts grow……….literally!!!
We want residents and local people to get involved in what will be a fantastic space for all to enjoy. You can contact WERA for more information and how you can get involved.
A garden by the community for the community.
